Project Architect (London)


Our UK Residential team is involved in the design of nationally significant, large-scale residential and mixed-use projects across the UK and internationally. We are involved in all stages from masterplanning and feasibility through to design delivery. We have an exciting opportunity for an ARB-registered Project Architect to join our busy creative studio in London and to develop your career in a well-structured, supportive environment. We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and ambitious architect to join our UK Residential team, based in our London studio.

The ideal candidate will be an ARB-registered Architect with a minimum of five years’ post-qualification experience. You will enjoy working as part of a team and be able to lead and motivate others. You will have the opportunity to be actively involved in business development and support various R&D initiatives while performing a key design role. Proven residential design experience at masterplanning and concept design stages, and of having successfully led projects through the planning stages with local planning authorities, are essential.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to confidently present their design ideas using a variety of media. A residential design track record with a recognised architectural practice is essential. You should already be in a position of responsibility within an architectural organisation and will be familiar with the current requirements and planning legislation for large-scale residential projects in the UK and London.

You will be focused on helping to continue to grow Chapman Taylor’s UK Residential design team in London and will be expected to play an active part in business development for this sector, becoming a member of Chapman Taylor’s UK Residential team and thought leadership programme

Key attributes:

  • Architect with at least five years’ post-Part III experience and proven design, technical and job running skills, with the ability to lead and inspire a team.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience leading medium-to-large-scale residential projects in London.
  • Experience in residential and a mix of other sectors would be preferred.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and thrive in a diverse and exciting studio environment.
  • Strong presentation and excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent graphic design presentation skills, including knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, SketchUp etc.
  • Technical proficiency, with experience of developing detailed design through to construction information.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Revit required, with the opportunity for advanced training for the right candidate.
  • Detailed working knowledge of Lifetime Homes, London Housing Design Guide, London Housing Supplementary Planning Guidance and Technical Housing Standards.

Recruitment during Covid-19 Restrictions:

As a result of the current UK lock-down imposed by the UK Government, all of our UK studios are temporarily closed and our staff are working remotely from home. During this time we will conduct any interviews via Microsoft Teams, however, we will endeavour to return to face-to-face interviews in the studio as soon as we are able to.
