Warsaw: Director – Mira Golinska, talks about what it is like to work at Chapman Taylor

Mira Goliõska

Mira Golinska joined Chapman Taylor 6 years ago in the Warsaw office.

What and where did you study?

I completed my architectural studies (MsArch) at the Szczecin Technical University in Poland in 1991 and in 2013 achieved an MBA at Kozminski University in Warsaw.

What level of qualification do you have as an Architect?

I obtained an Architectural License in 1999, a qualification that in Poland is equivalent to full registration.

Where did you work before joining Chapman Taylor?

I worked for 9 years for ECE Projektmanagement – a European market leader in the field of ‘downtown’ shopping centers. I also worked for the German architectural practice ‘Chwalisz & Sieg’, where I had an opportunity to participate in the Potsdamer Platz project in Berlin - Grand Hyatt Hotel designed by José Rafael Moneo.

What do you love about being an Architect?

To design a new environment for a site which ‘works’ commercially!

What does your day as an Architect look like?

I start my day very early, I’m usually the first in the office. This is a perfect time to evaluate the previous day and concentrate on the preparation for the day ahead. Normally I have projects from the evening before on my desk to review. After that other tasks start to unfold including developing proposals, contracts, preparing for negotiations, meetings, feedback for staff, checking project progress, etc.

What is your favourite current project that you are working on?

A new big spectacular shopping centre in Warsaw. Chapman Taylor’s role in this project is to deliver our industry leading expertise in retail design and together with our knowledge of new interior design trends.

What has been the highlight of your time at Chapman Taylor so far?

Just to be in a business that is dedicated to delivering commercially successful work to our clients.

What is the most interesting thing you have learnt in your time working at Chapman Taylor?

After 9 years of working with one client (ECE), starting with Chapman Taylor was an eye opening experience.  There are so many different project opportunities from a range of client investors and developers. It is still fascinating to work with many different stakeholders and help them achieve their business goals through great design!

Why did you choose Chapman Taylor as the company to work for?

I remember in my initial Chapman Taylor interview, I was asked the same question by Alexandra Zentile-Miller our Director at Chapman Taylor Warsaw.  My answer was – Princesshay - Exeter, Cabot Circus- Bristol and Bullring – Birmingham. They were and still are ‘hot’ projects and benchmarks for mixed-use city centre developments.
