Sustainability: Our East Kidwai Nagar project is presented at the COP21 climate change conference
On the 3rd of December, our client the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), which is a Indian Government organization, presented our residential-led mixed use project at East Kidwai Nagar in New Delhi, India, at the COP21 climate change conference in Paris.
East Kidwai Nagar is a major redevelopment of an existing government housing project on a very prominent 35 hectare site to the south of central Delhi. The city of Delhi has an acute shortage of housing and an annual population growth rate of 4%. The scheme, which is on-site, involves the construction of over 1 million square metres of residential-led mixed-use developments, including over 4,700 new apartments. It is Chapman Taylor's largest ever residential development.
East Kidwai Nagar fits into a wider Government of India programme called ‘Smart Cities’. These are sustainable developments where all the architecture, infrastructure, and technology, planned and deployed in construction incorporates sustainable features from the outset.
The Indian Government's objective with its ‘Smart Cities’ programme is to promote cities that provide core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, in a clean and sustainable ‘Smart’ way.
The NBCC presentation on Smart Cities at COP21 showcased East Kidwai Nagar as a leading example of India’s step towards green and smarter cities.
Chapman Taylor has masterplanned, concept & detailed designed, appointed sub-consultants, coordinated approvels for the project from all relevant Indian authorities for East Kidwai Nagar.
COP21 is shorthand for the "Conference of the Parties 21". It is being attended by 500+ representatives from all over the world who are meeting in Paris between November 30th and December 11th 2015 to determine the best way of reducing global warming.
